European Molecular Biology Laboratories

Through the Exhibition "The World of Molecular Biology", EMBL took the chance to install a permanent exhibition on the research field of molecular biology. Its challenge and potential lies in applying the project as a bridging element between science and society - a core institutional mission. I had the opportunity to join the institution first through working on the guided tour materials, then as Exhibition Manager as well, overseeing the project from its opening onwards. The exhibition as part of a scientific institution like EMBL opened the doors to this somewhat hidden gem in the city of Heidelberg and invited audiences to engage with the research conducted by the EMBL scientists on numerous EMBL sites. Molecular Biology as a field of research had to be translated in ways, that can be approachable for visitors up from ages 14, and establish connection points that become relatable and memorable experiences. Communicating the role and importance of the project within EMBL scientists has been another pivotal element of my work, which put in many colleagues minds, the significance of science communication in a completely new perspective. This project definitely kickstarted my interest in curatorial projects in the realm of science and technology especially due to their undeniable impact on contemporary society.
