As the first Hungarian institution, Ludwig Museum Budapest hosted the famous fashion and documentary photographer, Martin Munkácsi´s archival exhibition in 2011. An artist of Hungarian origin, Munkácsi´s name found recognition through his work documenting sports events and everyday life of the 1920s and political events of the 1930s in Germany. His international reputation came however through his work as fashion photographer in the 1930s in the USA for partners such as the Harper’s Bazaar.
As Assistant Curator I had the opportunity to work closely with the team of restaurateurs while cataloguing and intaking the over 250 photographs made between 1923 and 1963; learned about condition reports of archival images, the challenges of international artwork transportation; types of artwork insurance and installation methods for vintage and contemporary photography.
