Artist in Residence of Ana Filipović and Philipp Mecke

I had the chance to meet and learn about the practice of Ana and Philipp during their residency at Akademie Schloss Solitüde in Stuttgart in 2018. Their theoretical background and their sense of spacial structures was a welcoming fit to what Kranich Museum stands for.

During the artists' residency, the estate park became a space for observation, analysis, personal reflection and experimentation on both a conceptual and physical level. Their work, titled "A Place of One's Own", is a semi-hidden installation waiting to be explored by visitors walking unobtrusively among the hundred-year-old trees, where only a hum draws attention to an area invisibly occupied by the analogue sound machines. Through the visitors' body movements, the activated motion sensors connected to the glass sound sculptures describe a new space that invites discovery and contemplation - the unique creation of a temporary soundscape that is one's own.
